The Venezuelan National Institute of Parks (INPARQUES) has a new website www.inparques.gov.ve, which contains extensive information about Venezuela\’s national parks and the work of the Institute. One can find the mission statement of INPARQUES and addresses for contacting its personnel. Brief descriptions, and in some cases photo galleries of each National Park, Natural Monument, and Recreational Park administered by INPARQUES, are available.
In addition, the \”News\” section reports on the latest events that have occurred in the National Park System. In the section \”Contact Us\” they ask site visitors for comments or suggestions about the protected area descriptions and photo galleries.
INPARQUES recognition of the importance of information dissemination for conserving Venezuela\’s protected areas is very encouraging. ParksWatch is also pleased to see that they are working to stimulate public commentary on protected area issues in addition to using public commentary to improve this new site.
