ParksWatch

Our website is designed to give you quick and easy access to our news and park profiles, as well as background information about the countries where we work. By regularly posting breaking news and constantly adding new park evaluations to our database, we aim to keep you informed on all the issues crucial to protected areas in the tropics.

What We Do

Originally headquartered at Duke University’s Center for Tropical

Conservation (CTC), ParksWatch was created in 1999 by CTC Co- Directors, Dr. John Terborgh, James B. Duke Professor of

Environmental Science, and Dr. Carel van Schaik, Professor of Biological Anthropology and Anatomy. As both have moved on and retired, ParksWatch is now run through the NGO WISE Tropics, in the Cedar Key office, to maintain its nonprofit, tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. To date, ParksWatch has active projects with individuals and partner organizations in Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and Argentina.
