MACHIGUENGA COMMUNAL RESERVE D.S. No. 003-2003-AG 218,905.63 ha
Machiguenga Communal Reserve aims to conserve the biological diversity in the area that benefits the nearby native communities. In the interior of the protected area, establishing settlements, engaging in agriculture, ranching, or timber extraction is prohibited. The communal reserve promotes local participation in environmental conservation.

The Camisea Gas project has a direct impact on the protected area. The principle threats to the communal reserve are migration and settlers in the area, timber extraction in the adjacent native communities and in the nearby forest concessions, highway and access roads construction, and the lack of effective management mechanisms in the area.
